Open late Fri & SatCoolers, Hard Seltzers & Ciders
Ready-to-drink coolers, hard seltzers and ciders, kept cold for the patio, the cabin or game night.

Not everyone wants a beer or a glass of wine. City Liquor keeps a cooler full of ready-to-drink coolers, hard seltzers and ciders (and our walk-in beer cooler is right there if someone in the group wants a beer): easy, cold and ready to grab on the way to the lake, the backyard or the game.
Coolers, seltzers and ciders: what's the difference?
- Hard seltzers are sparkling water with alcohol and light flavouring. They're usually lighter in body and sugar.
- Coolers is the Canadian catch-all for ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages, often fruit-flavoured and sweeter, made with a spirit, wine or malt base. Canned vodka sodas and canned cocktails fall under this umbrella.
- Cider is fermented from apples (and perry from pears). Styles range from dry and crisp to sweet, and from classic apple to fruited and hopped.
Check the can
RTDs vary a lot in strength. Some are around 5%, but many canned cocktails and "strong" coolers are 7–8% or more, and a tall can can hold close to two standard drinks. Check the alcohol percentage and the can size, pace yourself, and alternate with water. If you prefer to skip alcohol, ask us about non-alcoholic options.
Patio, cabin and game-day runs
Free parking right at the door makes it an easy stop, and we're open until midnight on Friday and Saturday. Planning a bigger get-together? The party drinks calculator helps you work out quantities, and our staff can help you pick a mix your friends will like. Going to the lake? Keep cans closed and out of reach in the vehicle, since open alcohol isn't allowed in a car in Alberta.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are coolers stronger than beer?
Some are, some aren't. Many coolers and seltzers are around 5%, like a typical beer, but canned cocktails and strong coolers can be 7–8% or more. Check the percentage and can size on the label.
Is cider gluten-free?
Cider is made from apples, so it's naturally gluten-free, but flavoured or hopped ciders can have added ingredients. Check the label if you need to avoid gluten.
What's the difference between a cooler and a hard seltzer?
Both are ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages. A hard seltzer is basically sparkling water, alcohol and light flavouring, usually around 5% and lower in sugar. "Cooler" is a broader Canadian term for often sweeter, fruit-flavoured RTDs made with spirits, wine or malt, including vodka sodas and canned cocktails. Check the label for alcohol and sugar.
