Gin and Tonic Recipe
A gin and tonic is two ingredients, so the details make the drink: lots of ice, a cold, fizzy tonic and a garnish that suits your gin.

Ingredients
- 1½ oz (45 ml) gin
- 3–4½ oz (90–135 ml) cold tonic water
- Plenty of ice
- Lime wheel (or a garnish to suit your gin)
Method
- Fill a balloon or highball glass to the top with ice.
- Pour in the gin.
- Top with cold tonic, pouring slowly down the side of the glass or a bar spoon to keep the bubbles.
- Stir once, gently, and add the garnish.
Tips & variations
- A ratio of 1 part gin to 2–3 parts tonic suits most people. Start at 1:2 for a stronger G&T, or go 1:3 for something lighter.
- Match the garnish to the gin: lime for a classic juniper-forward London dry, grapefruit or orange for citrusy gins, cucumber or rosemary for floral and herbal styles.
- Keep the tonic in the fridge and open a fresh bottle or can. Flat tonic makes a flat drink.
